Helen Ceshan
Praise
I enjoy short stories and novellas, and it is not common to find new authors than can keep the narrative going after the first couple of stories. The prose is good, the plots are original, and it is a very enjoyable quick read. I heard about the book while having a drink and I'm glad I bought it. Looking forward to the next one.
Fractured Lives is a collection of short stories and contemplations that are rooted in internal turmoil and angst. Helen Cesham's tales are not for the fainthearted, but there is sensitivity in them, and a lightness of author voice that allows the reader to end up feeling refreshed rather than depleted. Some of her phrasing sparkles so much you will need your sunglasses! In fact the author is at her best when she breaks the fourth wall; when she write at you, as well as for you, leaning in to have a chat as if gossiping over a garden wall. With that in mind, Fractured Lives is not only a story of breakage but also one of reassembly as the human spirit endures.
